This unframed Limited Edition print depicts Major General John Sullivan, commander of the 3rd Division, Continental Army, leading his men forward
to engage the advancing Redcoats. The Battle of the Brandywine saw the unsuccessful attempt of General George Washington's Continental Army to stop General Sir William Howe's advance upon the American capital at Philadelphia. At Brandywine Creek Howe's redcoats were able to engage the Continentals for the first time since the Battles of Trenton and Princeton late 1776. Despite a tactical defeat, the Continental Army held together and successfully withdrew to continue the fight for independence.

Your contribution purchasing this 3x3 flag is fully tax deductible as a donation to Brandywine Battlefield. *If you find in these difficult economic times the cost is too much, but you still wish to support the cause, you may return the flag to the site on Tuesday September 15th and be refunded $25 of the purchase price of the Small flag, totaling a $15 rental donation.
The original red silk, Division Flag of the 7th PA Regt. is currently in the collection at Independence National Historic Park

Barclay became successful at his chosen career, selling enough paintings to support himself and his family. The paintings were exhibited and offered for sale in local museums, art associations, banks, and other stores in and around West Chester and Wilmington. Most of his artwork was not commissioned, but was an expression of Barclay’s personal interests, one of these being local history. A favorite subject was the Battle of Brandywine; Barclay completed many paintings and maps like this one, focusing on the topic. Credit for the historical accuracy and detail that Barclay was known for must go to his wife Caroline, who served as his research assistant.
Brandywine Battlefield Associates also owe their thanks to Caroline Rubincam for allowing us the rights to reproduce this wonderful Map. So that we may share an important work of
Historical Art with others who possess
